OBESITY

I found this video on YouTube that supported these clams it is called Health researchers have complained that advertising to children has a link to the rising obesity rates in the world. Pol, the video discussed how in the 1970’s there were 20 thousand advertisements for food, in the 1980’s there were 30 thousand advertisements for food and in the 1990’s 40 thousand advertisements for food.  With this increase over the years for advertisements of food with minimal to no nutritional value caused obesity in children.  This is when there started to be a noticeable increase in the obesity rates in young children.  Marketers know that children have a great deal of say in the American family today and they also know that 80% of children under the age of seventeen will choose the restaurant the family will go to and they usually pick fast food restaurants.  They also know that if our children nag us enough for something that eventually they will get there way.  The founder of Mc Donald’s one said that “were not in the hamburger business were in show business”  Kids go through a stage in development that makes them really want to fit in and the media companies are using there adds as a tool to tell our kids that life is about buying and getting things and this is the way to happiness to turn them into lifelong consumers.

  1. Childhood obesity is entirely a problem to be handled by parents. I agree that McDonald's and other fast food place have predatory marketing. However the final say on what they eat it the consumer. Parents need to accept that their kids will be unhappy for 5 minutes without McDonald's and healthier for it.
